communication is the key!
Communication is the key !
I am reading an interesting book - The Communication Book- By Mikael Krogerus and Roman Tschappeler.
Communication is a bit like love the authors say, it's what makes the world go round, but nobody knows how it works.Communication is natural.Everyday we ask questions, read, explain, write, listen, argue, discuss or hold our tongues. But only a few of us have the necessary tools to improve the way we communicate or understand how we are being communicated with. (Taken from the book)
This, they say was the starting point of their exploration of the Communication Theory!
So to write this book, Mikael and Roman, understood and considered important communication theories, studied those theories well to understand their relevance in the modern times.
The end result of this was - 44 approaches for dealing with eternal problems, from relationships to job interviews, small talk to annual presentation. (from the book)
This book also throws light on the Art of "Persuasion".- American Psychologist Dr. Robert Cialdini, has identified 6 principles- Reciprocity, Authority, Consistency, Consensus, Scarcity and Liking- that explain - how you can persuade someone to accept your suggesstions.
The book talks about why meetings are exhausting and why they take so long?- According to Seth Godin there are only 3 kinds of meetings- Information, Discussion and Permission.
Learn about the 15 Minute Rule for meetings.
Learn about a few interesting rules to follow when in a meeting.
Learn how to be a Good Boss by being a good communicator.- Don't Criticize, Give Praise and Practise what you preach.
The book says- Meetings are known to reveal a person's character- it talks about the 4 personality types in meetings- The silent Types, The Opportunists, The Master of the obvious and The Nay-sayers. Learn how to make a good speech.
I will write another post for the other topics in this lovely book as i am still in the process of reading it...Haven't Finished!
A Quote for you - "Between the pages of a book is a lovely place to be"!
